I went with a team to abuja a WHILE ago, but i guess the most memorable time for me was the praise and worship and fellowship with the team. it was truly a blessing and also the time spent in the field at the hospital. Seeing so many come with so many needs. Also a little boy who was blind and he just kept crying and my team member was wanting to comfort him. Also the many healings that took place. It was a very memorable moment. but the most I think was when we went to share the Jesus film in Ibgo in the village and 7 sheep stopped to watch the film and when it was over they got up and walked away. I'm not sure it was the light they were reacting to or the noise from the film anyhow it was quite a seen. Thanks.

Olu Kola-Korolo says:

I believe the most admirable thing one person can give to another human being is your time. Time, i like to define as your skill, love, open commitment and concern.
Working as a Dentist with ProHealth allowed me to tap into this with people of like-minded vision.
I gave up one-on-one clinical practice due to the inefficiency and inequities in healthcare. Working with ProHealth helped me reaffirm my decision and help mitigate health disparities.
Give your time to a worthy cause. The feeling is undeniably pleasant.

For me working in Pro-health as a volunteer dental officer for 12 months was life transforming. The experience was enriching and fulfilling at the same time.Although it was particulary easy considering the rigors of planning and exceuting project all the same the process was exciting. My time with Pro health helped me in defining my purpose.I will like to say a big thanks to the founder and all the members of the board for obeying the heavenly call.

Erin Brinkley says:

For the duration of the first project I was assigned to the surgical unit, where I assisted in surgery and performed the duty of scrub nurse for three tables which operated simultaneously in the same room! Most surgeries were herniorrhaphy, hydrocele repair, myomectomy, and a couple appendectomies. Patients were amazing, often having surgery with local anesthetic, lying perfectly still, then walking off the table to the recovery area located in another building; very tough and very grateful people! It was a long week with days starting at 5:30 am and ending as late as 8:00 pm with all travel time included, but very rewarding. Overall, things went well. I really enjoyed the people we worked with and appreciated the opportunity to work with your organization. Dupe and Juliet and all of the others that helped us along the way were wonderful. I got to meet Dr. Iko while there. Many thanks to him for making additional arrangements for me while I was there. I have arrived safely in New Zealand.

I had a wonderful time in Nigeria, I wasn't too sure what to expect, but everyone was very kind and everything worked out well with my travel arrangements. Thank you so much for being receptive to my interest in joining this trip. I feel this trip enriched me in so many ways. It will be a long time before I complete my residency, but I hope to one day return to what I pray will be a changed Nigeria.

Andrew & Laura says:

Hello friends!
We have made it safely to Nigeria where we spent the first night in a hotel in Abuja. We then took an 8 hour bus ride to the town where we set up our clinic, Jalingo (in Taraba State). This past week has been long, tiring, and adventurous. We have really connected as an American team, but we have also joined about 30 Nigerians serving with us on this trip. It has been wonderful to work together as a team and get to know the culture.

Andrew and I have already done things beyond what we thought we would do! Since Tuesday, Andrew has been assisting with surgeries in the OR (operating room). I have been a lot of different places. I have helped to sort pills in the pharmacy, hand out and fit people for glasses, helped in the OR, and stood in on a few eye surgeries. So Crazy!!!

We have both been able to pray with individuals from Nigeria and talk with them about their faith. The Nigerian people are very welcoming and glad that we are here. This may be the only communication until we return, but many thanks for all the prayers and please continue to pray for the great work the Lord is doing over here! God has definitely been at work on this trip and we can't wait to tell you more when we have time and the means to write.

Anna Bulman says:

An excerpt from Bridges a publication of Gundersen Lutheran.
Onalaska Clinic support staff technician, Anna Bulman, says she has always had an
interest in helping the underserved. In fact, her main motivation in life is compassion for others. It’s a motivation that has already taken 22-year-old Anna to great heights. This past June, Anna seized an opportunity she’ll never forget—a medical missionary trip to Nigeria. “I was looking for opportunities online and spotted a mission trip through Pro-
Health International, a non-profit committed to improving the health of Africa’s people,” she says.
Anna didn’t know anyone when she signed up for the 18-day mission, but this didn’t hold her back. In fact, she says her role as a phlebotomist has helped her become more independent. “I’ve become comfortable with all ages of patients and am definitely a
more outgoing person since I began at Gundersen Lutheran,” says Anna.
While in Nigeria, she and a medical team of 40 worked out of Benin City’s area hospital and created a make-shift clinic while in the rural village of Ile-Oluji. They provided free lab and dental work, minor surgeries, medications and delivered babies for thousands of Nigerians.
Anna said she didn’t know what to expect when she left the states. Indeed, she was in for
an eye-opening experience. Cases of HIV, malaria and typhoid fever were very common. For the first time, Anna felt what it was like to be a minority. The children, as Anna described them, were amazing. “It wasn’t uncommon for the children to touch our white skin and they really enjoyed having their pictures taken with us. ‘Snap us,’ as they would say.” Anna quickly realized Americans take a lot for granted, especially their healthcare. “Life is rough in Nigeria. Patients, literally, waited all day for their appointments. There were lines as far as you could see, and many were just thankful to have their blood pressures taken,” she explains.
Anna’s perspective on life changed and she’s come to appreciate the things she used to take for granted, but one thing that hasn’t changed— her passion for helping others.

Adam Smitherman says:

I went on the June 8-14 mission to Benin and the June 15-21 mission to Ile-Oluji. I just wanted to let you know that this was the most amazing trip of my life. I experienced so much, and got to see things I likely never would have seen. It was truly an eye opening experience. It was truly amazing to be able to help so many people, but in truth, it was so hard because there were still so many people left to be seen. I was able to see the dire need of Africa, and it gave me a drive to help in any way I can. It has definitely confirmed my desires for medical missions as an important part of my life. It was also an excellent way to spread the word of Christ. I know God is using Pro-Health International to reach his children. Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of this awesome experience.

Lubov Naranovich says:

To really write about my experience in Nigeria, it would take a few pages at least, but here’s what I can say in a few sentences: I’m so glad to be here at this time – it’s really been life changing. It’s also been challenging – but it’s been good. I enjoy working with Pro-Health – going on the projects. I’ve gotten to know the Lord more, found Him to be my source of strength in everything and come into a greater place of rest in Him. I’ve learned so much, both spiritual and practical… The people we work with have taught me so much also- I really see Christ in them. I would say this really has been worth it- it has been one of the best experiences of my life.

Dr Gabriel Toma says:

Volunteering for ProHealth missions has always given me the ultimate experience of my career as a Physician. I feel that the knowledge and skills that I possess are gifts from the Lord to be used to care for his people. What better way to offer those gifts back to him than to serve His people or 'one of the least of my brethren' at no cost to them!
I have been on several missions, and one of my discoveries is that every mission is unique.
The height of these experiences for me was when I had the wonderful experience, through ProHealth, to serve my tribe, who are largely Muslim, with qualitative and the gospel, at no cost to my people! The turn out was massive!
ProHealth International is great blessing not only to the recipients of services but to the givers and donors as well. It's a gift to the body of Christ.
Thank you ProHealth International!!!!!!!

Adriana Segura says:

Going to Africa and having worked in the capacity that I worked in was a childhood desire turned into an adult calling that finally had come true for me. To say the least it was an honor to have worked with other health care professionals whose hearts were also burning with the desire to do God’s will in their lives. Not only this, but I was impressed, moved and encouraged by how many professionals were willing to give of their individual gifting, talents, time and energy to help their own for the cause of Christ. It was beautiful and amazing to see God’s children working selflessly, passionately, and joyfully in the spiritual and/or professional role that they were called to, be it a Medical Doctor, Dentist, Optometrist, Nurse, Pastor etc. To witness this encourages me to serve God wholeheartedly in my profession be it that I use my skills overseas in a place like Africa or in North America. Moreover, what made this experience such an enjoyable and heartwarming one was the fact that once you meet the Pro Health family be it the staff and volunteers, you are automatically embracement with God’s love, peace, joy and comfort. Furthermore, this experience was an amazingly purposeful act in that with Pro Health you are automatically immersed into a Christ centered vision to reach the lost through medical efforts.
